Omarchy Mobile on the Pixel 8 Pro — testing a community port

31 October 2026 / Lefteris Iliadis / SomniusX

Omarchy Mobile runs real Omarchy on a phone: Arch Linux ARM, Hyprland and a mainline kernel. It's Derek Ross's project, and the Pixel 8 Pro (husky) port is led by Brett-Michael Green. This page isn't my app. It tracks my part: testing the port on a second Pixel 8 Pro and helping where I can.

Where it stands on my phone

Status on 31 October 2026, early work, not a usable phone yet.

  • Works: boot from slot B, storage (Kioxia 256 GB UFS 4.0), SSH over USB, and Hyprland with Omarchy's shell.
  • In testing, on Brett's test kernel: the power and volume keys produce key events, and raw touch events land in the right corners. I haven't seen the interface respond to a tap yet.
  • Open problem: the screen goes black about 40 seconds after the session starts. The cause isn't known yet.
  • Not implemented on the port yet: GPU, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, battery and charging, audio, cameras, modem and more. The device map has the current state.

Left: the probe's dmesg, with the guard setting partitions read-only. Right: the green systemd console during the first Omarchy boot.

What I've done so far

  • Confirmed that the install path works on UFS 4.0, on a storage chip the port hadn't seen.
  • Installed Omarchy with GrapheneOS kept on slot A as the way back.
  • Reported the first-boot clock problem and the black screen on the tracking issue.

What's next

  1. See touch working in the interface itself.
  2. Find the cause of the black screen.
  3. Record this phone in the port's notes.
  4. Review the open pull requests.
  5. Later: Greek on the on-screen keyboard.
