LEFTEROS / PERSONAL NOTES

iPhone – Gritter

1 September 2013 / Lefteris Iliadis / SomniusX

Historical text from HellasProject (2009–2014). It is not current advice or a present-day service.

Twitter @jwr_: The first Greek Twitter client app for the iPhone! Twitter @singingcircuits: Pretty good, easy, fast, and it even works offline! Very Greek too!!

Gritter for iPhone

version 1.51.07

About

Gritter came out of an endless Twitter habit. I am fairly addicted, with a decent bunch of followers and real conversation rather than follow-spam. The app itself:

  • Friends — friends timeline since you last opened it
  • Mentions — when someone uses @yournick
  • Direct Messages
  • Favorites
  • More — Sent, Unread, and Settings:
    • Twitter account (username and password)
    • refresh interval for Friends, Mentions, and so on
    • use Safari for links inside tweets
    • dark theme for night tweeting
    • shake for fullscreen (later builds reportedly broke this; I was going to look)
    • pagination versus one long list
    • initial load size, so a long absence does not freeze the app
    • scroll behaviour
    • “use in the bathroom” — try it yourself
    • a footer/signature appended to every tweet

People will say photo, video, and geotag posting are missing. Those take months; they were planned once the current limits were cleared.

Versions

  • 1.51.07 — small graphic polish with beta testers, new icon and splash
  • 1.5 — code cleanup and full Greek
  • 1.4 — more settings
  • 1.3 — second theme; save a draft tweet to the sandbox if you quit
  • 1.2 — dark theme study; fullscreen; clear the compose field
  • 1.1 — dropped Interface Builder, everything in one project for learning
  • 1.0 — working, partly Greek
  • 0.9 — you can post a tweet :D
  • 0.6–0.8 — public timeline, mentions, favorites, first settings
  • 0.2–0.5 — fighting the Twitter API
  • 0.1 — first idea

Notes

The app stayed on the shelf. App Store publication stalled because some bits (image thumbnails, resize, a couple of other spots) were borrowed code, which I cannot sell without permission.

It might still have gone to BigBoss for jailbroken users via Cydia, again depending on licences.
