Gnoty

Historical text from HellasProject (2009–2014). It is not current advice or a present-day service.

I had been spending time in Xcode, Apple sample code, and beginner guides online. Xcode is a serious software platform.

That led to Gnoty (Gmail + notifier): another program that checks your Gmail Inbox and shows a menu-bar icon for whether you have unread mail, and how many. It talks to gmail.com with Python over IMAP, then can speak the unread count using OS X’s built-in speech.

After mixing AppleScript, Automator, and Xcode for about twenty minutes, the UI still barely matches the pitch. The Python backend for the mail check already exists.

Icons and some bits came from Ashchan’s Gmail Notifr.

It's going to be a Gmail Notifier on the Status Bar as an icon. It uses python script to check mail.

I'm still learing the basics and trying to make this project work!
