LEFTEROS / PERSONAL NOTES

“Apple’s value is larger than Greece’s”

27 January 2012 / Lefteris Iliadis / SomniusX

Historical text from HellasProject (2009–2014). It is not current advice or a present-day service.

The title is not ours; it is CNN’s editorial team’s, after Apple’s record market capitalization, which recently touched $431 billion and closed at $398 billion at the end of the session.

Even from that level, Apple is still the second company worldwide by market cap, behind Exxon Mobil ($431.37 billion) and well ahead of PetroChina ($270 billion) and Microsoft ($235 billion).
On that stock-market valuation, Apple’s price is larger than the gross national product of several countries, such as Greece, Argentina, South Africa, or Austria.

The important point, as the article says, is that despite its colossal size Apple keeps growing very fast, with analysts expecting Q4 2011 results to show a 45% sales increase versus the same period in 2010.
